SHARON GLAAS FHEA
Linguist | Researcher | Teacher
I am an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham in the UK, based in the Department of Linguistics and Communication. My doctoral thesis focused on discourses of economic crisis in the Pro-EU British press and the European Union in the lead up to the UK Brexit referendum of 2016.
More broadly I am interested the use of corpus linguistics and computational methods to understand meaning in developing online narratives, and representation of social groups, as well as the linguistic resources of evaluation, persuasion, and deception, particularly in political and media contexts.
